I understand, but blocking IP addresses is a huge uphill battle and will get tedious with fact that there are at least 10 new proxy sites a day that will get them around the filter.

While exceedingly tedious, you can use the QoS feature on some routers to block access. In this article from Cisco, they show how to block the Code Red virus....

Have you block the CNAME records for mail.google.com and gmail.com?? http://www.robtex.com/dns/mail.google.com.html#records It should work in any firewal rule ;)

Nah, I tried myself to block by CNAME mail.google.com network but it fails... I think the easier way would be by content filter...

euhm, and why not in your dns? of course if thy know the ip adress they could acces that, but thats unlikely. make a record for mail.google.com and gmail.google.com and you nail all ip's behind...

i work in nonprofits mostly, until i can convince the powers of the purse to get me sonicwalls for their infastructure i tend to use a combination of pfsense for firewall and opendns for filtering....

surely http(s)://mail.google.com and maybe http(s)://www.googlemail.com would block it? you'd also have to find the email client addresses too - imap/smtp/pop3.gmail.com i think are the mail servers,...
